Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe there were eight others who also passed up the opportunity to win it for us. |

Hogg no overs at all.
Discuss. |
Perhaps the discussion could also ask why Croft, with figures of 1-0-2-1 was removed from the attack!
I had to go out shortly after six, not long after Marshall had bowled his first over for either three or four singles, so seeing his figures of 4-0-53-0 shortly afterwards on Ceefax was a bit of a shock.
Vincent, supposedly signed as a T20 specialist, must be pleased he played against Derbyshire. In five of his innings he aggregated 13 runs.
Once again, batting second we have struggled when facing a decent score. It happened in the FPT as well. When batting second it seems we almost always find ourselves in early trouble. |

Unbelievable knock by Malan - why keep the spinners on though?
176 is a big target and will be very tough to chase down. |

Has Law's captaincy thrown this away? We need (another) captains inns out of him now, and it sounds like he's just had a piece of luck. _________________ www.myspace.com/howard4tatu if you can bear to look at me in a skirt |

Yep. Come back Chilly all is forgiven.
Oh well, at least they can now concentrate on not winning the Championship. |

It was always going to be a tough chase and we did well to get that close.
As for Hoggy, i wouldn't have bowled him - we had Flintoff, Chapple, Mahmood, Cork and Croft in the seam department. They didn't all bowl out.
As for Hogg - another chance to win us a one day game and he still has not finished a game for us this season. |

I don't think so. 176 was only a par score on that pitch and we should have got it but, for the umpteenth time this season, our top order got out to bad shots. If we had kept wickets in hand during the first ten overs, we would have won easily. Their seam bowling was tight and accurate but not threatening enough to have us at 14 for 3. Yet again we pluck defeat from the jaws of victory. |

A it harsh to blame a part time batsman........
Yet another cock up from the Bottleshire. When things get tough, too many go missing. On this case the top order, including Law who gets away scot-free on this forum.
As for Winker, his expression never changes. You couldn't tell if he was being pleasured or getting his nuts ripped off.
Another night of disappointment and more money to the Betfair kitty! _________________ If in doubt, have a w**k. If still in doubt, have another. |

My first sighting of Lancs this season was a really good match, with deserving winners. The money was worth it for the stupendous catch by Faf, a good all-round display by Fred (even if he didn't get his usual 100 when I see him at the Oval and, as seems to have been the case in all his recent knocks, he wasn't entirely fluent or convincing) - and Malan's innings. When he came out, I said to my wife that he was a dangerman - but I didn't realise he would be THAT much of one! Also Finn bowled superbly - I reckon he's the next Broad and could be a winter tourist in the next year or two (he went on the 'A' trip last season, after all). Henderson was also good - though not as dangerous as his spell after lunch on day 1 at Canterbury 2 years ago - the best I have ever seen 'live' - our top order had no answer to him on that occasion.
I never felt that we were quite in contention, even if ahead of Middx for much of our reply on an innings comparison basis. We lost any momentum we had when Fred hit Udal's thrid ball for a single! After our 2 early wickets, I would have put Cork or perhaps even Saj in at no. 4 - Faf was never going to force the pace enough. Middx were much more astute at mixing up their bowlers so we never had a chance to settle. Our bowling changes were rather more predictable. I wouldn't have given Marshall (notwithstanding his excellent T20 record) a 4th over once Malan had indicated his liking of spin. Croft's analysis looks bizarre in the circumstances.
The ECB must be hoping that Middx win the tournament as they don't have any ICL players! |

Unlike at Edgbaston last year, I don't think the team bottled it. The top order problem has been the same throughout the tournament: none of the first three is willing/able to get his head down while the others play around him. We have had only two/three specialist batsmen in the side and a bunch of all rounders, who invariably have had to start coming in while the new ball is still hard. With Loye in hopeless form, this line-up hasn't worked. Only Vincent has got any runs and then only against poor bowling. It's not true that the forum has not criticised Law: his bowling tactics have been repeatedly questioned but it's his battting that has been the problem. In spite of the spinners getting caned, Middlesex only achieved a par score last night and all we had to do was not lose early wickets. Their opening bowling was tight and accurate but not nearly good enough to have us at 14 for 3. We did that ourselves with poor batting. Incidentally, with Loye out, we should have played Horton. Opening with both Vincent and Cross was suicidal! |

If our top order is having so much difficulty, wouldn't it be an idea (too late now) to have someone up there who has a bit of class and can stay in playing 'sensibly' whilst everyone else plays around him? His name's on the tip of my keyboard, and he's a pretty good average too. _________________ www.myspace.com/howard4tatu if you can bear to look at me in a skirt |

Totally agree. Let's hope we use the Pro-40 to rebuild the one-day batting. |

You are correct. Lancs are desperate for a finisher and Hogg always seems to be around at the end of the innings, but in games where we never get over the finishing line. Yet people are saying he is our most consistent bat in one day cricket.
I thought Croft was the man to take over this mantle, but his form has been inconsistent in one day cricket over the last 12 months or so. However to be fair he has won games for us on several occasions. (Notts home FP springs to mind.) |
