I saw little difference in CC attendance on the weekend days last year.

I suspect that for every extra person they got through the turnstyle, they lost one who would be involved in league cricket, or have to deal with family stuff that they wouldn't have to mid week.

So I was wrong, Manyard and Atherton did the damage! Looks like we had a couple of overs to spare too.
precisely....

Quote:

If you alienate your core audience long term cricket will be in trouble.

Probably but the membership only provide a small % of income and are unwilling to pay more...understandable as many are retired.

I totally agree with that post.

Championship cricket is being moved to midweek because selling a few extra corporate boxes / hospitality packages far outweighs the pay on the day spectators and loss of membership renewals.

The club and county cricket in general need to remember people on corporate days out and watching 20:20 mostly care little for the club and are just passing through.

If you alienate your core audience long term cricket will be in trouble.

RE: Membership Reneewal

I agree Chewbacca - membership is of no value to working people, especially those who work from Monday to Friday.

The 2010 fixture list shows that Lancs will only play eight days cricket at Old Trafford at the weekend or bank holidays. After 4th May, half of those days will be gone - only four days of weekend cricket at Old Trafford for the most of May and all of June, July, August and September.

Of these eight days, we only get to see two county championship days - a third day and a last day which, as we all know, doesn't always take place - and both of these days are in April. Two of the remaining six days are for the Twenty20 matches, each hardly being a full day's cricket.

I don't think that Lancs are too bothered about membership income - they keep telling us that it makes up less that 5% of their income. I suppose that if they think that they can fill the new seats in 'The Point' for the Eng. v. Aus ODI on 27/6 at £175+VAT, what's a few membership fees lost from non-renewing disgruntled members.

RE: Old Trafford redevelopment ?

I have my doubts about whether £40m+ of public money should go a private members club..

I know Yorkshire got a loan from Leeds City Council for part of their development but the proposed £400m (yes £400m) for the Lords' redevelopment makes our one look minor.

RE: Old Trafford redevelopment ?

philiph20 wrote:

Where is the possible new Tesco store going to be situated?

On the field at the side of Stretford Sports Centre. Tesco already own the site and have planning permisson to build a 48,000 sq ft store.but when they wanted to change the original plans and increase the size to 90,000sq ft they were refused permisson, even losing an appeal with a goverment inspector.
Now it seems working with Trafford Council and forming a partnership which will amongst other aspects will bring jobs to the local long term unemployed, and I think also to help fund a new local school, as well as the re-development of OT,Tesco want in return a 140,000sq ft superstore.
The positive part to this is it seems like the Council are in favour of this even though it goes against their own and national guide lines on protecting local shopping areas from developments like this.
The negatives,it is expected that there could be a lot of objections to the plans thus forcing it into a public enquiry and delaying the development-not good for LCCC or the future of test cricket at OT
